The main Apex subreddit with 4M+ subscribers: casual discussion, screenshots, clips, patch reactions, and community Q&A

FreeBeginner

What it is

r/apexlegends is the game's main subreddit since the February 2019 launch. With 4M+ subscribers, it's one of the largest gaming subreddits. Predominantly async discussion — posts with video clips, fan art, patch reactions, balance discussion, builds, and meta talk. Moderated by community team, with Respawn community managers occasionally present for official announcements and bug reports.

What problem it solves

Apex has a lot of conversation: balance debates, controversial dev decisions, viral plays. Discord is real-time but ephemeral. Reddit is persistent and archivable — a good balance post from 6 months ago is still findable via search. More importantly: the upvote system works as a natural filter, mediocre posts sink, the best rise to the top.

Differentiation

  • vs r/CompetitiveApex: r/apexlegends is general/casual; r/CompetitiveApex is serious ranked/ALGS. Each has a different tone.
  • vs Apex official Discord: subreddit is async + archivable. Discord is real-time. Complementary.
  • vs YouTube highlight channels: individual highlights are curated by YouTube algorithm. Reddit curation is upvote-based, different signal.

What people use it for

  • Patch reaction megathreads: after each major patch, there's a megathread with thousand+ comments within hours — best place to see community consensus.
  • Viral clip discovery: top clips of the week rise to the top. If you missed an insane play, Reddit shows it to you.
  • Archivable balance discussion: long-form balance posts are usually excellent and persist for reference.
  • Bug compilation threads: when a bug is widespread, report threads accumulate visibility and often get Respawn response.
  • Developer AMAs: Respawn does periodic AMAs announced in advance. Only way to ask direct questions to devs.

Who this tool is NOT for

If you're looking for real-time LFG, Reddit is too slow — use Discord. If your interest is serious esports or competitive meta, r/CompetitiveApex is a better fit.

How it's used in practice

  1. Open reddit.com/r/apexlegends.
  2. Default sort is "Hot" — the balanced mix of viral content and discussion.
  3. For serious discussion: switch to "Top → This Week" or "Top → This Month" to see substantive posts.
  4. To keep up with patches: filter by "Discussion" or "News" flair via the sidebar.
  5. Create a Reddit account (free) to comment and upvote — anonymous viewing is OK.

Honest limitations

  • Quality varies by hour: popular posts are excellent, but there are also many low-effort memes at peak times.
  • Algorithm favors clip culture: long-form analysis posts usually get buried under viral clips. Filtering by "Discussion" flair helps.
  • Mods active but overwhelmed: post velocity (1000+/day) means toxicity and rule-breaking content occasionally slips through.
  • No guaranteed official presence: Respawn participates but not as obligation. Official Discord has more formal presence.
  • English only: main subreddit is EN. There's a smaller r/apex_es for Spanish speakers but a smaller playerbase.

How to get started

Open reddit.com/r/apexlegends, no account needed. Lurk for a week to understand which type of content gains visibility. Create an account if you want to participate — useful for upvoting good content and commenting on discussions of interest. RSS feed available if you prefer async news consumption outside Reddit.
