Tool stack
The Elden Ring toolkit
The five tools that accompany an Elden Ring run — plan builds, check the wiki, navigate the map, and play co-op without limits. The stack for not getting lost in the Lands Between.
Elden Ring is huge and deliberately opaque: it won't tell you where to go, what each stat does, or where that item you need is. That's part of its magic, but also why most players lean on external tools to plan their character and avoid missing content. This five-tool stack covers the essentials without ruining the sense of discovery.
How you use it during a run
Planning starts with EIP Build Planner: distribute stats, test gear combinations, and build your target character before spending runes you can't get back. To experiment and compare variants quickly —or share them— MugenMonkey is the community's nimblest option.
When the world stumps you, two tools solve the "where?" and the "how?". MapGenie is the interactive map: it marks item, boss, and secret locations so you know what you're missing in each region without opening twenty tabs. And Fextralife is the reference wiki: the page for every item, boss, and NPC, with a walkthrough for when you're truly stuck.
Finally, Seamless Co-op transforms the social experience: unlike vanilla co-op, it lets you run the whole campaign with friends, no forced invasions or area limits. It's the mod nearly every group installs to play together.
Why these five
Each solves a distinct need of a run:
- Build planning → EIP Build Planner + MugenMonkey
- World navigation → MapGenie
- Reference → Fextralife
- Co-op with friends → Seamless Co-op
You can finish the game without any of them, but together they make the experience far less frustrating. Each tool has its full analysis in the codex.
