Totov Builder and EFT Ammo Builder occupy the same editorial space — helping players assemble loadouts before heading to raid — but from completely different angles. Totov is the integral builder with real trader-rep filters. EFT Ammo Builder inverts the flow: start with the ammo you want to fire and it shows which weapons fire it. For different players, they're the right answer.
Opposite philosophies
Totov Builder assumes your question is "what build can I make with what I have unlocked?". That's why it asks you to set trader levels at setup and filters mods locked by real reputation. If Mechanic is level 2, mods requiring level 3 appear crossed out with the requirement. That unique feature makes the suggested builds feasible, not aspirational.
EFT Ammo Builder assumes your question is "which weapons fire the ammo I need to penetrate this armor?". The flow starts with search by caliber or stats, and from the chosen ammo it lists compatible weapons. For ammo-first players (who decide loadouts based on expected armor class on the map), this order is more comfortable.
Deep builder vs simple builder
Totov is more complete: weapons, body armor, helmets, rigs, headsets, backpacks — the full loadout. EFT Ammo Builder focuses on weapons and leaves the rest to other tools. For budget and team-coordinated exports, Totov wins. For fast weapon + ammo analysis, EFT Ammo is more direct.
Open-source vs closed
Totov Builder lives on GitHub under GPL-3.0. The community can fork, contribute, or audit. EFT Ammo Builder is closed-source — works well but its sustainability depends on the author.
When each one wins
| Use case | Winner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Build with budget and trader levels | Totov | Real-rep filters |
| Pick weapon from target ammo | EFT Ammo | Ammo-first flow |
| Export JSON to team | Totov | Export includes full loadout |
| Compare ballistic calibers | EFT Ammo | UI dedicated to ammo stats |
| Audit/fork the code | Totov | Open-source GPL-3.0 |
Recommendation
If your workflow is "build a feasible build to budget", Totov is the right choice. If your workflow is "what ammo and what weapon to penetrate this armor", EFT Ammo starts the flow in the right order. For many players, both open in parallel cover the two angles without problematic overlap.
