Tool stack
The toolkit for your first Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough
The five tools that accompany a first BG3 run: plan your character, follow the quests, verify mechanics, find everything, and solve questions with the community.
A first Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough is huge: three acts, dozens of interlocking quests, companions with their arcs, consequential decisions, and a dense rules system. This stack gathers the five tools that accompany that first run without ruining the experience: plan, guide, verify, find, and ask. They aren't extreme-optimization tools, but the ones that make your first playthrough flow.
The flow
Before you start, EIP Build Planner lets you plan your character and party so you don't run into a hard-to-reverse build decision too late. During the playthrough, the Fextralife wiki is your narrated guide: quest walkthroughs, companion and romance guides that help you avoid missing or breaking content on the first run.
When a mechanic or item raises questions, bg3.wiki is the precision second screen: the exact, verified data, for when Fextralife orients you but you want to confirm the detail. For exploration, Map Genie marks collectibles and unique gear, so you don't close an act leaving behind a piece that later becomes inaccessible.
And when a question no guide answers, r/BaldursGate3 is the community: your question is probably already answered in a thread, and if not, it's the place to ask for build or quest advice.
Why these five
- Planning → EIP Build Planner: deciding the character and party before playing.
- Guidance and reference → Fextralife + bg3.wiki: narrated orientation to progress, precise data to verify.
- Exploration → Map Genie: finding everything without leaving loot behind.
- Community → r/BaldursGate3: solving what no guide covers.
Closing
Each tool covers a different moment of the playthrough: before (plan), during (guide and verify), exploring (find), and when you're stuck (ask). Together, they turn an overwhelming first run into an orderly experience without taking away the discovery. If spoilers matter to you, use Map Genie and the walkthroughs with judgment. Each tool has its full analysis in the codex.
