What it solves
Nightreign has automatic matchmaking but wait times fluctuate by hour and region. For Expeditions with specific compositions (e.g., "looking for Recluse and Duchess for Caligo NG+3"), LFG is faster and lets you coordinate.
It also centralizes official info: balance patches, Forsaken Hollows DLC announcements, community events.
What people use it for
LFG by Nightlord: post in the target Nightlord's thread to assemble a party fast.
Per-Nightfarer builds: separate channels per character with meta discussion and screenshots.
Coordination of specific runs: NG+3, no-relic challenges, speedrun attempts.
Official announcements: Nightreign patches and DLC news.
Who shouldn't use it
If you play solo only (no party), Discord doesn't add much — solo Nightreign is viable but the Discord ecosystem is centered on co-op.
If you play offline on console, LFG channels don't apply.
How it's used in practice

discord.com/invite/eldenring). - Accept rules and pick "Nightreign" role in the role-picker.
- Find the Nightreign cluster.
- For LFG, post in your platform's channel with: target Nightlord, NG level, preferred Nightfarers.
- Other players respond with matchmaking codes.
Honest limitations
Shared with base ER: most of the Discord is Elden Ring; the Nightreign channels are a section, not the focus.
High noise: with 500K+ total members, general channels scroll fast.
Post-DLC spoiler rules: with Forsaken Hollows, there's a strict spoiler policy until the grace period passes.
