Honkai: Star Rail Interactive Map

Interactive map with chests, treasures, quests, and materials — persistent tracking

FreeEssentialMulti-gameBeginner

What it is

Star Rail Interactive Map (at star-rail-map.appsample.com) is a web interactive map for Honkai: Star Rail maintained by AppSample, the team that also operates maps for Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves and other open-world games. The map covers all explorable zones in HSR: Herta Space Station, Jarilo-VI (Belobog and its regions), Xianzhou Luofu, Penacony, and new zones as they're added with each patch.

Each marker on the map represents a point of interest: chest (regular, precious, sturdy, treasure), puzzle, quest NPC, material gathering spot, warp anchor, hidden achievement trigger, or boss spawn. The user can filter by category, mark items as collected, and sync progress across devices via a free account.

The key difference vs the official HoYoLAB map is update speed and detail: AppSample usually has full coverage of a new zone days after the patch, while HoYoLAB takes weeks.

What problem it solves

HSR is a game where exploration completionism is one of its pillars: each zone has dozens of chests, hidden puzzles, side quest NPCs and hidden achievements. Without an external map, finding 100% requires hours of manual searching or watching long videos per zone.

More importantly: the game doesn't permanently mark what you've already collected. You return to an explored zone and empty chests don't visually distinguish from pending ones (except for being opened in-world, which isn't always visible). Result: you waste time checking what you already did.

AppSample solves both: it shows you where everything is, and lets you mark what you've collected so next time you know exactly what's missing. Cloud sync means if you open the map on PC while playing on mobile (or vice versa), progress is synced.

Differentiation

The space of interactive maps for HSR has few serious options, but worth understanding the contrast:

vs HoYoLAB Interactive Map: HoYoLAB is official, integrated with your HoYoverse account, and has legitimacy. But updates are slower (new zones can take 2-3 weeks for full coverage), filters are basic, and tracking is less granular. AppSample has denser UI but is faster and more detailed.

vs YouTube exploration videos: videos cover chest hunts zone by zone but aren't interactive. Having to pause and resume every few seconds is bad UX. A map with tracking is always superior once you have to cover more than 20-30 chests.

vs not using anything: viable only if your goal isn't 100% exploration. For many casual players this is totally valid (HSR doesn't penalize not collecting everything). If you want serious completion, not using a map means hours of extra searching.

What people use it for

Completing 100% exploration per zone: the most common case. Open the chest filter, walk through the zone marking each one you open, and visually see what's left.

Finding hidden puzzles for achievements: many Glory of the Trailblaze achievements require solving specific puzzles. The map lists them with exact location and brief description.

Farming character materials: ascension materials (for both characters and traces) have specific spawn points. The map marks them with approximate respawn timer.

Locating NPCs for side quests: side quests don't always have a clear in-game marker. Searching by NPC name on the map takes you directly to their location.

Verifying what you left pending when revisiting old zones: when you return to Jarilo-VI or Herta months later, persistent tracking shows exactly what you're missing without having to re-check zone by zone.

Who this tool is NOT for

AppSample is optional, not essential. There are player profiles for which it adds little:

Story-only players: if your interest is following the plot and you don't care about exploration completionism, the map is unnecessary overhead. The game progresses without needing additional chests.

Those who value discovering the world organically: if part of your enjoyment is getting lost in a zone and finding things by chance, using a map breaks that experience.

Very new players: in the first few hours the game guides you quite a bit and you don't need external reference. Jumping to the map too early can be overwhelming before having context.

Those who don't want to register: persistent tracking requires creating an AppSample account (free, email/Google). If you only want the map without login, you can use it but lose persistence.

How it works in practice

AppSample works on desktop or mobile browser, no installation:

  1. Open star-rail-map.appsample.com from any browser.

  2. Choose the zone you want to explore from the top selector (Herta, Jarilo, Luofu, Penacony, etc.).

  3. Use the side panel to enable/disable filters: chests, puzzles, materials, quests, achievements, etc.

  4. For persistent tracking, create a free account (email or Google login) and log in. Without login, progress saves in browser localStorage (lost if you clear data or change device).

  5. Right-click (or tap-and-hold on mobile) on a marker gives you "Mark as collected" option, which strikes the item.

Typical flows:

Cover a new zone at 100%:

  1. Enable chests, puzzles and achievements filters.
  2. Start from one corner and advance in mental grid.
  3. Mark each item as you collect it in-game.
  4. When the map is clean of visible markers, that zone is at 100%.

Search for a specific material:

  1. Enable the "Materials" filter.
  2. Choose the specific material from submenu.
  3. The map shows all spawn points.
  4. Visit the closest ones to your current warp anchor.

Honest limitations

Requires account for cross-device persistence. Without login tracking lives in browser localStorage; if you clear data or change device, you lose progress.

Brand-new zone coverage may take days. Although faster than HoYoLAB, AppSample doesn't have immediate coverage on patch day. It usually has full mapping 3-7 days later.

UI can be visually dense. With all filters active the map fills with overlapping markers. Learning to filter by task is necessary for usability.

Ads on the free version. AppSample monetizes with ads. There's a premium option ($) to remove them but the free version is fully functional.

Occasional errors in marker locations. Like any map made by a small team plus contributions, some markers may be slightly off or duplicated. Reports on Discord get addressed but not instantly.

Only available in English. The interface, zone names and item descriptions are in English. For Spanish-speaking users playing in Spanish you have to cross-reference names mentally.

Doesn't replace narrative quest guides. The map tells you where an NPC is, but not what to do in the quest. For walkthroughs you go to Fandom or Game8.

How to get started

No installation required. Visit star-rail-map.appsample.com in any browser, ideally desktop for large screen.

For your first visit:

  1. Choose a zone you've explored a lot in-game (Herta Space Station or Jarilo-VI Administrative District work well for beginners).

  2. Enable only the chests filter at first to avoid overwhelm.

  3. Compare what you see on the map with what you know you've collected. This visually calibrates you on how to use it.

  4. If you want persistence, create an account (takes 30 seconds) and start marking collected items.

For serious exploration sessions:

  1. Open the map on a second monitor or on tablet/mobile while playing.

  2. Enable filters relevant to your objective (chests if going for jades, puzzles if going for achievements).

  3. Mark as you collect to not lose progress.

Recommended combination: AppSample to find items, Fandom Wiki to understand the achievements you unlock, Honey Hunter to verify chest drops if you care about the detail.
