⚔️Combat & gear calculators

GearScape

OSRS DPS calculator that also searches for you: it recommends the best gear setup for any NPC based on budget, stats and combat style.

What it is

GearScape is an OSRS tool that combines two things: a DPS calculator and a best-setup finder. Beyond measuring a loadout's damage, it can directly recommend the best gear for a given NPC, starting from your preferences: budget, your stats, items you want to avoid, and combat style.

The core idea is that the tool walks the item space for you, rather than only scoring a loadout you already built. It works over a base of more than 2000 items and monsters, and also includes a classic DPS calculator and a DPS graph for finer analysis.

What problem it solves

Building the optimal setup by hand means knowing hundreds of items and trying combinations one by one. For many players that's exactly the tedious part: they know which boss they're heading to, but not what exactly to equip within their budget.

GearScape flips the flow. Instead of asking you to build and then measure, you give it a target and your constraints, and it returns a recommended setup. It's the "show me what to wear" that pure calculators don't do.

Differentiation

Its distinctive trait against the rest of the trio is gear search. The OSRS Wiki DPS Calculator is canonical and open source, but you build the loadout manually: it scores what you give it, it doesn't propose. GearScape does propose.

Against OSRS Best in Slot, the difference is the recommendation's angle: OSRS Best in Slot auto-equips the absolute BiS by loading your RSN, whereas GearScape optimizes within constraints like budget and stats, which makes it useful when the perfect BiS is out of reach.

What people use it for

  • Finding the best setup on a fixed budget: telling it how much you can spend and getting the optimal gear within that limit.
  • Solving what to bring to a new boss: picking the NPC and letting the tool propose a setup without researching item by item.
  • Exploring cheaper alternatives: seeing how much DPS you lose if you avoid the most expensive items in the ideal setup.
  • Comparing the recommended setup against yours: using the DPS calculator and graph to validate the proposal against what you already run.

Who this tool is NOT for

It's not for someone who needs the most authoritative and auditable combat math; for that, the wiki's open-source calculator is the reference. It's also not for someone wary of smaller tools who prefers the source the community uses by default.

And if all you want is to load your RSN and see the absolute BiS without thinking about budget, OSRS Best in Slot is the more direct route.

How it's used in practice

  1. Open gearscape.net in your browser.
  2. Pick the target NPC or boss.
  3. Set your preferences: budget, your stats, items to avoid, and combat style.
  4. Let the tool search and propose the best setup within those constraints.
  5. Review the recommended setup and its resulting DPS.
  6. Use the DPS calculator and graph to compare the proposal against other loadouts.

Honest limitations

  • Not the canonical source: its math isn't the community's open-source reference; it's wise to cross-check results with the wiki calculator.
  • Smaller tool: less visibility and community backing than the official wiki calculator.
  • The recommendation depends on your inputs: if the preferences are set wrong, the proposed setup may not fit your real situation.
  • Optimizes a model: like any calculator, it doesn't capture every interaction or RNG of the real encounter.

How to get started

Head to gearscape.net —no install required. Pick a boss you visit often, set a realistic budget and your stats, and let it propose a setup. Then compare it in the DPS calculator against what you already run to see how much you gain. If you need the most trustworthy math, contrast the result with the wiki calculator.
