Which to use for what
- Map accessible from any deviceBetter pick: Palworld.gg
Palworld.gg runs in any browser, no install. THGL has a web version too but its differentiator is the Windows app.
- Real-time position tracking while you playBetter pick: Palworld THGL Map
Only THGL has the desktop overlay (Skeleton App) that reads the game process's position and shows it on the map.
- Coordinate co-op runs with shared markersBetter pick: Palworld THGL Map
THGL supports room codes so the group sees the same markers in real time. Palworld.gg only allows local markers.
- Quickly filter Pals, dungeons, fast travel layersBetter pick: Palworld.gg
Palworld.gg has more polished layer UI and smoother filtering. THGL is rawer and the filter UX is less direct.
- Fast content updates after a big patchBetter pick: Palworld.gg
Palworld.gg updates within 48-72h after each patch. THGL is a small project maintained by one person — updates usually take longer.
The two most-used Palworld interactive maps are Palworld.gg's (part of its general database) and The Hidden Gaming Lair's (palworld.th.gl, aka THGL). They cover basically the same data — Pals, dungeons, fast travel, Lifmunk Effigies, alphas, etc. — but how you access them changes the use case.
The main differentiator
Palworld THGL is web + Windows app. The app (Skeleton App) overlays on top of the game and shows your real-time position on the map by reading process memory. For long exploration sessions this changes the flow: no pausing to open the browser, the map is always visible in a floating window or on a second monitor.
Palworld.gg is pure web. Hit palworld.gg/map in any browser, no install, no permissions. Works on Xbox via browser, on Mac, Linux, mobile. But to see your position you have to read the in-game coordinates and translate them mentally.
When each one wins
| Use case | Winner |
|---|---|
| Map accessible from any device | Palworld.gg |
| Real-time position tracking | THGL |
| Shared markers in co-op | THGL |
| Smooth layer filtering | Palworld.gg |
| Fast updates after big patches | Palworld.gg |
Recommendation
If you play on Xbox, Mac, Linux, or mobile: Palworld.gg, no contest. THGL doesn't apply.
If you play on Windows in casual sessions (1-2 hours, not obsessed with exploration): Palworld.gg as well. Install and permission friction doesn't pay back for occasional use.
If you play on Windows in long exploration or coordinated co-op sessions: worth installing THGL. The real-position overlay is a game-changer when you're hunting 50 Lifmunk Effigies or stalking Predator Pals.
Both are free. THGL is also open source. No reason not to try both and pick the one that fits your style.
Notes on updates
THGL has the classic one-person project limitation: when a big Palworld patch ships with new Pals/dungeons, markers take longer to appear (1-2 weeks typically). Palworld.gg, being a bigger team, usually has everything in 48-72h.
If staying current with the latest patch matters: Palworld.gg wins. If latency doesn't matter and you want the overlay: THGL.
