What it is
PoEPlanner is a web application that lets you plan both the Atlas tree and the passive skill tree of Path of Exile, all from the browser without installation. Its main URL leads to the Atlas tree planner, which is where it stands out most, but the site also includes a complete passive tree planner.
Unlike Path of Building which requires download and installation, PoEPlanner works instantly from any device with a browser. This accessibility makes it especially useful for quick planning, experimentation, or when you're away from your main PC.
A distinctive feature is that builds are shared via URL: you copy the link to your plan and anyone can open it seeing exactly what you designed, without needing to import anything.
What problem it solves
Path of Building is the most complete tool for designing builds in Path of Exile, but its mandatory installation and learning curve make it overkill for simple tasks. If you just want to see how an Atlas tree would look with certain nodes, or quickly think through a variation of your passive tree, opening PoB is unnecessary overhead.
PoEPlanner solves this by delivering planning functionality directly in the browser. For tasks like:
Planning an Atlas tree before starting to invest in-game.
Visualizing variations of your passive tree without spending time on complex calculations.
Sharing a build concept with a friend via link.
Experimenting with tree designs from your phone or tablet.
Seeing the complete game tree without downloading anything.
PoEPlanner is the most convenient option for all of this.
What people use it for
Atlas tree planning: this is probably the strongest use case. The Atlas tree is where you decide what endgame content to prioritize (which league mechanics to farm, which bosses to fight, which pinnacles to unlock). PoEPlanner lets you visualize and experiment with different Atlas builds without opening heavy tools.
Sharing builds in URL format: on Reddit, Discord, and PoE forums, builds get discussed constantly. PoEPlanner allows copying a URL that opens directly with the planned build. Much more accessible than asking the reader to import a code in PoB.
Quick variation thinking: when you're considering "what if I took these nodes instead of those", opening PoEPlanner and experimenting is faster than modifying your main PoB and risking losing your serious planning progress.
Access from any device: you're on your phone, at work, or on someone else's computer. PoEPlanner works in any browser. Useful for those moments when you have an idea and want to jot it down.
Visual education of the tree: for new players learning the passive tree or Atlas system, navigating PoEPlanner without pressure to do calculations is a good way to visually familiarize with the systems.
How it complements PoB
It's important to understand that PoEPlanner doesn't replace Path of Building, they're complementary tools for different moments:
PoB is better for: deep theorycrafting with exact DPS calculations, damage simulations against specific bosses, comparing gear with precise numbers, endgame optimization.
PoEPlanner is better for: quick planning, visualization, easy sharing, multi-device access, initial build conceptualization.
Many serious players use both: they start conceptualizing in PoEPlanner for speed, and when the idea matures, they move it to PoB for fine calculations.
Honest limitations
Doesn't calculate damage or survivability. This is the fundamental difference with PoB. PoEPlanner shows you what nodes you have allocated, what effects they produce, but doesn't calculate your resulting DPS or how much effective life you'd have. For numerical analysis, you need PoB.
Only available in English. The interface and game terms are in English. For users playing PoE in Spanish, node names may not match their client.
Doesn't simulate gear or gems. Only plans trees (passive and atlas). It has no functionality to configure items, skill gems, or auras.
Without an account you don't save builds permanently. Builds are saved in URL, so you lose your plan if you lose the link. There's no account system to save your collection of builds.
Updates can take time after major patches. When GGG modifies the passive tree or Atlas (which happens regularly), PoEPlanner needs to update. It usually does so quickly but there can be days of lag on major changes.
Advanced functions are limited compared to PoB. Things like specific ascendancy nodes, Cluster Jewels, Forbidden Flesh/Flame jewels, may have simpler coverage than in PoB.
How it's used in practice
For Atlas tree planning, the typical flow is:
You go to poeplanner.com/atlas-tree. You see the complete Atlas tree on screen.
Click on each node you want to allocate. It marks as active, showing the effects.
As you assign nodes, counters tell you how many points you've spent and how many you have available.
When you finish your plan, you copy the browser URL. That URL contains your entire build.
You share the URL wherever you want (Discord, Reddit, message to a friend). Whoever opens it sees exactly your plan.
For passive tree planning, the flow is similar: you go to the passive tree section, assign nodes, export via URL.
How to get started
Doesn't require installation, registration, or an account. You go to poeplanner.com from any browser and choose whether you want to plan Atlas tree or passive tree.
For your first time, practical recommendation: start with Atlas tree because it's the simpler system and where PoEPlanner shines most. Assign some nodes and observe how the effects update. When you're comfortable with the interface, try sharing a URL with someone to see how the share system works.
If you're coming from PoB, the transition to PoEPlanner is very direct: the concepts of allocations, paths, and nodes are the same. Only that here you don't have the side panels of stats and simulations.
For recurring use, consider bookmarking poeplanner.com/atlas-tree in your browser. For quick access whenever you need to plan something Atlas-related.
