What it is
Rust+ is Facepunch's official mobile app for Rust, free on iOS and Android. You pair with a server from the in-game menu (ESC → Rust+ → Pair With Server) and from mobile you control smart switches, get alerts on server events (CH47, Cargo Ship, Patrol Helicopter spawning), see a live map of your progress, and chat with your team.
What problem it solves
Rust is a game that rewards constant presence: bases get raided while you're offline, important events (Cargo, CH47, Helicopter) happen without warning, smart switches in your base don't get adjusted without logging in. Rust+ extends the game to mobile so you can react to some of those situations without being at the PC. Not game-changing, but for serious groups or paranoid solos it's a big QoL.
Differentiation
It's the only official option. The alternative for extending features is rustplusplus, an open-source Discord bot that extends the Rust+ API with more functionality (alerts to Discord channels, remote commands, team Discord integration). Rust+ is the official "thin" client; rustplusplus is the community extension most serious clans add on top.
What people use it for
- Remote smart switches: turn on/off your base lights, open automated doors, trigger traps from mobile.
- Event alerts: push notification when Cargo Ship, CH47 (Chinook), Patrol Helicopter, Bradley APC spawn.
- Smart alarms: configure custom alarms with messages (e.g., "Someone broke the compound door").
- Live map: see your monument progress + base location on mobile map without logging in.
- Team chat: chat with your team from mobile when you're away, they read in-game.
Who this isn't for
If you only play 2-3 sessions a week of 1 hour each, Rust+ doesn't add much — the game ends when you close it. If your server blocks pairing (some vanilla and modded servers block it to avoid "advantage"), you can't use it. If you want extras beyond Rust+ (Discord bot integration, advanced commands), you need rustplusplus on top.
How to use it
- Download Rust+ from App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
- Log in with your Steam account.
- In-game, ESC → Rust+ → Pair With Server (server must allow Rust+).
- On mobile, accept the pairing request.
- You're now connected to the server from mobile — see map, alerts, assigned smart switches.
- For smart switches: name them in-game (right-click → Pair) and they appear in the app for control.
Honest limitations
- Some servers block Rust+: especially high-risk vanilla servers to avoid "advantage" from external comms.
- Pairing is sometimes lost with server relogin: occasional re-pair needed.
- No voice chat: text chat only with team.
- Alerts may not be real-time: typical latency of 5-30 seconds, not an instant alarm system.
- English only: no localization in the app.
- Doesn't work on console Rust: only PC version paired with mobile apps.
Getting started
Download the app from your app store, log in with Steam. For first pairing: be on the server, open ESC → Rust+ → Pair with QR code or tap "Pair" on mobile. Smart switches are assigned in-game once built: right-click → "Pair" on the switch and choose a name. For more QoL, consider setting up rustplusplus on top of Rust+ with your Discord.
