What it is
Overframe is Warframe's dominant build database. It's a website with an integrated modding simulator: you pick a warframe, weapon or companion, slot mods, and watch the stats change in real time. Players post their builds, others vote them up/down, and that produces a ranking that acts as community curation.
It's free (with ads and an optional supporter tier). It includes tier lists —among them a Helminth ability tier list widely used for planning subsumes— and lets you sync your account to import the gear you already own. After warframe-builder.com died, Overframe became the de-facto successor for build planning.
What problem it solves
Warframe has a huge modding system: limited mod capacity, polarities, formas, mods that scale differently, ability synergies. Testing combinations in-game costs resources (formas, endo, credits) and time. Getting it wrong is expensive.
Overframe lets you simulate everything before spending anything. You build it in the browser, see the resulting damage, duration, range, efficiency and survivability, and only replicate it in-game once you're satisfied. It also solves "I don't know what build to use": you search your frame, sort by votes, and see what the community runs for each purpose (steel path, survival, nuke, support).
Differentiation
Versus RE:FRAMED (a newer, cleaner loadout builder), Overframe wins on adoption and volume: it has the most published builds, the most active voting system and the reference tier lists. RE:FRAMED is tidier if you find Overframe cluttered, but has far less content mass.
Versus the Warframe Damage Calculator, Overframe plans the whole build (warframe + weapon + synergies) while the Damage Calc focuses only on squeezing a weapon's exact DPS. Overframe to design and share, Damage Calc to min-max numbers.
What people use it for
Copying proven builds: search your frame, sort by votes, and replicate a build that already works instead of inventing one.
Designing your own builds: the simulator lets you experiment with mods and see the stat impact without spending in-game resources.
Planning Helminth subsumes: the Helminth ability tier list guides which ability to inject into each frame.
Comparing archetypes: you quickly see the difference between a max-strength build and a duration build, with the numbers in view.
Importing your inventory: by syncing your account, Overframe knows which mods and gear you own and filters accordingly.
Who this tool isn't for
If you want the raw per-shot DPS, multishot and crit numbers with riven included, the Warframe Damage Calculator models that in more detail. Overframe is holistic planning, not a pure damage calculator.
If ads bother you or you prefer a minimal interface, RE:FRAMED may feel more comfortable, though you'll sacrifice build volume.
How it's used in practice
- Go to
overframe.gg(it opens fine in a browser; it blocks automated requests but the site works normally). - Search the warframe or weapon you want to build.
- Sort builds by votes or filter by purpose (steel path, survivability, etc.).
- Open a build to see the exact mods, the polarities needed and the author's notes.
- Optional: open it in the simulator, tweak it to your taste and verify the stats before applying in-game.
Honest limitations
English only: the interface and terminology aren't translated.
Ads: the site is ad-supported; the supporter tier removes them.
Variable build quality: the voting system helps, but there are outdated builds or ones designed for extreme gear. Check the date and comments.
Blocks curl/scrapers: it uses Cloudflare, so don't expect to access content via script — it's for browser use.
How to get started
You don't need an account to view builds. To save your own or import your inventory, register for free. The most useful move starting out: search your main frame, open the top-voted build for your goal, and use it as a starting point instead of building blind.
