D4 Planner

Alternative build planner focused on skill tree and paragon board visualization, with shareable links and side-by-side build comparison

FreeIntermediate

What it is

D4 Planner (d4planner.io) is a web planning tool for D4. Different from Maxroll's planner which lives embedded in their guides, D4 Planner is standalone — its only job is to be a complete visual editor for skill tree, paragon board, gear slots, and aspects.

Features:

  • Visual skill tree: drag and pick skills exactly like in the game.
  • Interactive paragon board: rotate boards, place glyphs, see stat totals.
  • Gear input: stats and aspects per slot.
  • Share via link: any build is shareable with a permanent URL.
  • Side-by-side comparison: two builds open at once for exact diff.

Free, no login required to use (login to save permanently).

What problem it solves

Maxroll and D4builds have embedded planners but limited (no side-by-side comparison, no full paragon board rotation). For users needing maximum precision — serious theorycrafters, hardcore raiders pushing Pit tiers, content creators building guides — D4 Planner provides granular control.

It also solves the "respec cost" problem: in D4, changing paragon allocations costs significant gold at endgame. Free planning in the planner before committing in-game saves a lot.

How it differs from D4builds.gg

  • D4 Planner: pure individual planning, no community.
  • D4builds.gg: community sharing + voting, planner as a medium for sharing.

D4 Planner is the planning tool. D4builds is the discovery platform. Use Planner to create, D4builds to share.

What people actually use it for

Paragon optimization: with high respec costs, plan the entire board in Planner before spending gold.

Side-by-side comparison: choosing between 2 Necromancer builds. Open them side-by-side and see differences in skills, paragon, gear.

Sharing your build with a mentor: copy the link, send to an experienced player who critiques the planning without Discord image dumping.

Experimental mocking: try "what if I swap glyph X for Y" without spending gold. Planner gives instant stat-change feedback.

Content creator prep: guide writers use Planner to visualize builds before screenshotting for articles.

Who it's NOT for

  • Casuals without endgame: if you play casual campaign, you don't need paragon planning depth.
  • Those seeking community discovery: this is only a planner. To discover existing builds, D4builds.gg.
  • Those wanting editorial guidance: D4 Planner doesn't opine. If you want "is it S tier or not", Maxroll/Mobalytics.
  • Mobile-first users: UI works on mobile but paragon board complexity is hard on small screens.

How it's actually used

  1. d4planner.io. No login required to create.

  2. New Build → select class.

  3. Skill Tree tab: click skills to activate. See total invested.

  4. Paragon Board tab: start with starter board. Click "Add Board" to add another. Rotation is drag.

  5. Gear & Aspects tab: input items with stats and rolls.

  6. Save & Share: get a permalink. Send to your mentor or paste in your Discord.

  7. To compare: open two builds in separate tabs or use the comparison feature.

Honest limitations

No editorial opinion: the planner doesn't tell you if your build is good. It just shows resulting stats. You need to cross-reference with Maxroll/Mobalytics or your own experience.

Paragon learning curve: the paragon board has 5+ boards with rotation, glyphs, rare nodes. For newcomers it's overwhelming. Maxroll guides explain this better.

Owner-dependent maintenance: planner maintained by individuals, no professional team. When Blizzard does big patches, there can be lag in updates.

No account integration: you can't import your current game gear (D4 doesn't expose API). Manual input only.

UI can feel rigid: drag-and-drop workflows in paragon sometimes fight back. Getting used to it takes hours.

How to get started

  1. d4planner.io. New Build.

  2. Select your class. Get familiar with tabs.

  3. Build your current build (based on a Maxroll guide). This helps you learn the planner UI.

  4. Save and share the link with yourself or a teammate.

  5. To mock changes: clone the build, modify, compare stats.

  6. Once comfortable, plan paragon fully before spending gold on respec.

  7. For complementary depth + editorial opinion, combine with Maxroll/Mobalytics.
