What it is
Maxroll (maxroll.gg/d4) is an editorial gaming hub focused on ARPGs, run by the Maxroll Team — a professional group combining known creators with dedicated editorial staff. Around since 2020 originally covering Diablo III, expanded to D4, PoE, PoE 2, Last Epoch, D2 Resurrected, and Lost Ark.
For D4 specifically it provides:
- Interactive build planner: skill tree + paragon board + gear with per-slot justification.
- Extensive build guides: leveling path, endgame variants, comparison vs alternatives.
- Per-class tier lists: kept current with the patch with balance notes.
- Foundational class guides: for newcomers picking a class.
- News + patch analysis: when a balance change drops, deep analysis within hours.

What problem it solves
D4 has 6 classes, ~5 specs per class, a complex paragon board with glyphs, and an aspects/uniques system that multiplies build options. Without a quality curated site, casuals get lost and competitive players waste time rediscovering what's already figured out.
Maxroll solves this by centralizing: you go, pick a class, see the top 3-5 builds for the current patch with tier rating, open the guide, and have leveling through endgame paragon in a single page. Saves hours vs assembling info from scattered Reddit posts.
How it differs from Mobalytics
Both cover builds + tier lists + guides for D4. Differences:
- Maxroll: depth-focused — long guides with extensive prose, per-slot justification, explained leveling path. Better for learners who want to understand why.
- Mobalytics: speed-focused — quick tier lists with visual cards, builds in more compact format. Better for someone who already understands the game and just needs "what build do I use this season".
Many use both: Mobalytics for a quick meta overview, Maxroll for the deep dive on the chosen build.
What people actually use it for
Picking a class pre-season: 2 weeks before season start, read Maxroll tier lists to see which class is strong and plan your fresh char.
Leveling build: the guide gives the optimal leveling path (skills to take in order, baseline gear) up to endgame transition.
Endgame build optimization: once at cap, see build variants (push variant, farm variant, Helltide variant) and pick based on your goal.
Patch update: when a balance change drops, Maxroll updates tier lists within hours. Their editorial take tells you whether your build survived or it's time to reroll.
Paragon planning: the planner lets you mock your paragon board before spending respec costs in-game.
Who it's NOT for
- PvP-only: D4 PvP is marginal and Maxroll doesn't give it meaningful editorial space.
- Lore enthusiasts: this is technical content. For lore/quest walkthroughs, go to Fextralife.
- Players who prefer video over text: although Maxroll embeds videos in some guides, the primary medium is long-form text. For video-first, YouTube creators.
- Hardcore-only theorycrafters: for absolute max-min, Maxroll sometimes stops at the "canonical build" without exploring edge cases a job lead would cover. For that, specialized Reddit/Discord.
How it's actually used
Go to maxroll.gg/d4.
Browse by Classes → pick your class. See all published builds with tier rating.
Click the build that interests you. The page has sections: Overview, Skills, Paragon, Gear, Mechanics.
Open the build's Planner (link in each guide) to see it interactively. You can clone it to your account to modify.
For general tier lists: Class Tier List and Build Tier List in the top menu.
For news: the home page lists latest articles including patch analysis and season previews.
Honest limitations
Heavy endgame focus: although they cover leveling, the most detailed is endgame. For the first 50 levels you can go with any Maxroll build and it'll work.
Limited build variety due to curation: only publishes builds that pass editorial filter. To see creative off-meta builds, D4builds.gg offers more diversity.
Bias toward top tier: recommendations tend to S/A tier builds. For B-tier classes or specs, content is scarcer.
Some ads/donations: the site isn't fully clean — there are display ads and newsletter prompts. Manageable with adblock but it exists.
Fast but not instant updates: post-patch typically takes 24-72 hours to have tier lists fully revised. For immediate reaction to balance changes, follow Maxroll's official Discord.
How to get started
maxroll.gg/d4. No login required.
If you're new, go to Class Tier List and pick a top-tier class for your first character.
Go to the top build's guide for that class. Read the Leveling section first.
Import the planner if you want to modify it to your specific situation.
Once at endgame, re-read the Endgame and Paragon sections to refine.
Bookmark Maxroll and revisit weekly during active season to see tier list shifts.
For discussion/Q&A, the Maxroll Discord is active — guide authors are there and respond.
