Wowhead D4

Diablo IV's most complete database: items, aspects, uniques, mythics, skills, paragon nodes, achievements, and an interactive map, plus news and PTR datamined content

FreeEssentialMulti-gameBeginner

What it is

Wowhead (wowhead.com/diablo-4) is the Wowhead Network's Diablo IV database, also owners of the flagship WoW database. They launched D4 coverage at the 2023 release and maintain the same exhaustive-coverage standard cross-game.

For D4 it covers:

  • Items database: every legendary, unique, mythic with stats, source, known drop rates.
  • Aspects: full list with effects, sources (dungeon/codex), level requirement.
  • Skills & paragon: each skill with detailed tooltip, paragon nodes with description.
  • Achievements: completion tracking with community stats.
  • Interactive map: locations of altars, bosses, statues, Lilith statues.
  • News + datamining: when PTR is up, dataming immediately — items, balance changes, unannounced features.

Free, no login required.

What problem it solves

D4 doesn't expose a public detailed API, and Blizzard's official "database" is minimal. For questions like "what aspect drops from Echo of Varshan?" or "what was the old vs new Whirlwind tooltip?", Wowhead is the only reliable reference that keeps historical archive.

For hardcore players, its datamining feed is a source of early leaks about seasonal content and rebalances.

How it differs from Fextralife

  • Wowhead: pure technical database. Stats, drops, sources. Editorial limited to patch-notes coverage.
  • Fextralife: community-edited wiki with narrative prose, quest walkthroughs, lore.

Wowhead answers "what is this item / aspect / skill". Fextralife answers "how do I do this quest" or "what's the story of this boss".

What people actually use it for

Aspect lookup: you find an aspect in-game, want to know the source. Wowhead tells you which dungeon it comes from or if it's codex.

Items database: which legendaries exist for Necromancer? Wowhead lists all filterable by class.

Datamined content: pre-patch, Wowhead publishes PTR datamine leaks. You learn about new uniques before they're officially revealed.

Interactive map: hunting Lilith statues, altars, or specific NPCs. The map shows exact coords.

Patch coverage: when a patch drops, Wowhead publishes an article with documented changes and context.

Who it's NOT for

  • Those wanting builds: Wowhead lists items, doesn't opine on meta. For builds, Maxroll/Mobalytics.
  • Those wanting narrative/lore: for lore deep dives, Fextralife.
  • Those avoiding datamining spoilers: Wowhead publishes leaks that may spoil seasonal mechanics. If you prefer surprises, avoid.
  • Mobile users: the database has a lot of info per screen — mobile experience is OK but not optimal.

How it's actually used

  1. wowhead.com/diablo-4.

  2. Database menu: items, aspects, uniques, skills.

  3. Search bar: type exact or partial name.

  4. Each entry has tabs: Overview, Source, Used in, Comments.

  5. Map section: interactive map with altars, Lilith, dungeons filters.

  6. News: home page lists latest articles including PTR datamine.

  7. For serious users: Wowhead Premium ($1/month) removes ads and adds minor features.

Honest limitations

No opinion on meta: Wowhead lists. It doesn't tell you "this aspect is good". For evaluation, other sites.

Moderate-to-heavy ads: monetized with display ads. Premium tier removes them.

Database can have gaps: new items or aspects added in patches can take 1-3 days to appear fully tooltipped.

Variable community comments quality: comments on items are hit-or-miss. Sometimes very useful, other times spam.

Datamining spoilers by default: if you follow Wowhead casually, you'll bump into seasonal spoilers. Not an opt-out.
